Renovation Portfolio

What began as a dark, unfinished basement is now a bright and inviting extension of the Wood family’s home. Patrick and Debbie wanted to create additional living space where their family could relax, entertain, display collectibles, and give the kids a dedicated game room. With help developing their vision, the previously unused lower level was transformed into a functional space filled with thoughtful details and personality.

The existing steel beams, HVAC ductwork, and varying ceiling heights presented several design and construction challenges. HVAC venting and a line set were rerouted, while carefully planned ceiling details and bulkheads helped bring the different elevations together into a cohesive finished space. The completed ceiling became one of the most exciting and distinctive parts of the renovation.

Durable LVP flooring provides a practical foundation for everyday family living. Painted cabinetry, quartz countertops, a large island, and a brick tile backsplash give the basement a finished, welcoming appearance while providing plenty of space for gathering and entertaining. Lighted
cabinetry and built-in shelving create attractive display areas for the homeowners’ collectible items, and a hidden utility door keeps necessary access discreetly integrated into the design.

One of the project’s most personal features is the custom hockey shooter tutor, which brings an element of fun to the kids’ game area and
reflects the homeowners’ connection to the sport. The hockey theme also carries some history, as homeowner Patrick Wood and Garman Builders Renovations Sales Specialist Steve Galeone played ice hockey together in high school and graduated one year apart.

The finished basement now feels brighter, more open, and fully connected to the rest of the home. More than simply finishing an unused
area, this renovation created a comfortable and highly personalized living space designed around the way the Wood family spends time together. The homeowners expressed their appreciation for both the design guidance and the execution that helped bring their vision to life.
